TRT UK creates DF&TR industry-wide ISPY Academy

By Charlotte Turner |

ISPY-Academy-leadTravel Retail Training UK (TRT UK) has launched an industry-wide ‘ISPY Academy’, providing online learning resources, certification and social learning for international sales professionals within the duty free and travel retail market.

The follows the decision made by TRT UK and the Duty Free World Council (DFWC) to part ways on a collaborative ‘DFWC Academy’ in December last year. The DFWC says it is still committed ‘to making the DFWC Academy a reality’.

The ISPY Academy also sees the relaunch of the annual ISPY event, which no longer stands for ‘Inflight Sales Person of the Year’ and has been rebranded as ‘International Sales Professionals of the Year’, encompassing the new academy.

“The ISPY Academy will have its own resources library and will be able to host brand and product training as well as interactive skills training courses; all linked to certification for the sales professionals,” says TRT UK MD Christine Martin.

The company behind ISPY (TRT UK) will stage the 2017 event in London on 18,19 and 20 December, which this time aims to bring all duty free and travel retail stakeholders together ‘to share ideas, knowledge and skills and celebrate excellence’.

THE FIRST ANNUAL ISPY EVENT OF ITS KIND

The event will include workshops, TED Talk style presentations, elevator pitch presentations within ‘technology, skills and innovation corners’, as well as a tradeshow.

Martin says that the ISPY Academy – accessible all year-round – and the event intend to really make use of training methods associated with social learning. “It’s getting people talking to each other or watching a video or listening to a podcast before commenting and discussing.

“It’s about opening their eyes and ears to take on other people’s thoughts, opinions and ideas, knowledge, experience and skills.”

It is through this social learning that Martin hopes the industry can better understand the Y Generation; what makes them ‘tick’ and what helps them learn.

“What makes them want to learn? What can we do to make them pursue a career in retail? What do we have to do to engage this group of people? They are almost polar opposites to the X Generation and what this industry used to do even three years ago is just not relevant to them…it just isn’t.”
