Viagra may help jet-lag sufferers
By Administrator |
Scientists claim that they have discovered properties in the anti-impotence drug Viagra that can significantly help to prevent one of the air travellers' greatest enemies…jet-lag.
A team of Argentine scientists say they have discovered that Viagra interferes with an enzyme that reduces levels of a naturally occurring compound in the brain known as cyclic guanine monophosphate (cGMP). According to these experts, cGMP contributes to a signalling pathway that regulates the circadian cycle – or to you and me: the body's internal clock.
The scientists said that hamsters treated with the drug overnight were tricked into believing that morning had arrived six hours earlier when subjected to bright lights and they recovered from their ‘jet lag’ induced environmental tests some 25% to 50% faster than untreated animals.
