For a remarkable 13th consecutive year, Dubai Duty Free was named ‘Best for Duty Free Shopping’ at this week’s Business Traveller Middle East awards.

The awards were held on the eve of the Arabian Travel Market (ATM 5th – 8th May), at the Waldorf Astoria on the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. Dubai Duty Free, which achieved record sales of $1.8bn in 2013 came first in the readers’ survey conducted by the magazine within the category ‘Best Airport in the Middle East for Duty Free Shopping’.

More than 300 travel industry executives attended the event and awards which were organized by Motivate and Panacea Publishing.

Commenting on the award, Executive Vice Chairman of Dubai Duty Free, Colm McLoughlin said: “It is an incredible honour to receive this award for the 13th consecutive year. We never take these things for granted and sincerely thank those readers who have voted for Dubai Duty Free.

“Every award that we receive is a reflection on the hard work undertaken by all of our team and I join H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Dubai Duty Free, in congratulating all of our 6,000 employees.”

The Business Traveller Middle East award is the third major award to be won by Dubai Duty Free this year. In April, the operation received two awards from Duty Free News International (DFNI) for Travel-Retail Excellence – ‘Best Airport Travel Retailer of the Year’ and ‘Best New Shop Opening’. The latter was awarded for the January 2013 opening of Concourse A in Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3.
