Flat passenger growth at Dubai Int. in first five months

By Luke Barras-hill |

Dubaipax_5m18Nearly 40 million passengers (37.9m) travelled through Dubai International Airport (DXB) in the first five months of this year, according to operator Dubai Airports.

The result (36,943,613) represents a marginal 0.1% contraction compared to the same period year-on-year (36,969,594) due to the impact of Ramadan, which fell in May.

In May, passenger numbers were down by 3.8% to 6,589,264 due to the lower volumes traditionally experienced during the holy month, but average monthly passenger traffic volumes at DXB this year have remained high at 7.4 million.

India emerged as the top destination country with a total of 1,041,258 passengers, followed by Saudi Arabia (495,242), and the UK (429,893).

Dubai says the coming weekend is expected to be its busiest this year, with close to 1.1m passengers passing through its terminals over the next four days.
