Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Doha has laid on a spread of activations and events to capture the attentions of travellers during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 (20 November – 18 December).
As reported online and via an exclusive video interview in the TRBusiness November/December e-zine, the operator and Qatar Duty Free unfurled a new retail and F&B universe on 10 November aligned with the new terminal expansion.
Continuing the fanfare during the World Cup, HIA has introduced activations in and around the expanded terminal at concourses A, B and C.
These include a mosaic photo wall adjacent to the terminal’s famed ‘Lamp Bear’ in the south plaza, several children’s and fan zones, viewing areas and match-day themed performances.
The children’s zones host interactive drawings, face painting, a football ball pit and giant Lego setups.

Meanwhile, virtual activities such as augmented reality (AR) football featuring the tournament’s La’eeb Mascot interacting with the players joins a ‘try your teams’ jersey’ booth.
This allows football fans to pose for photographs with their favourite team jersey and have the images sent via email and more.
In collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Qatar, several activity booths have been installed at HIA’s north plaza, including WHO’s ‘Sport for Health’ and ‘Bring the Moves’ campaigns.

Passengers at HIA have the opportunity to be immortalised within FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 history by having their picture taken at the Mosaic wall.
Commenting on the activations, HIA COO Engr. Badr Mohammed Al Meer said: “As the official airport partner of the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East, we are delighted to be hosting several activations and events at our premises – celebrating the tournament with our travellers and proudly representing the State of Qatar.
“Curated for all passengers, the FIFA-themed activations will provide our visitors with a variety of options to discover HIA’s world-class services and hospitality.”
