Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Midfield Terminal is tipped to open in 2020.

Abu Dhabi-headquartered conglomerate Lulu Group has sealed an agreement with Abu Dhabi Airports to operate two retail areas at the new Midfield Terminal.

The areas in question are a specialist gifting retail space and a dedicated non-food department store covering a total of 1,833sq m.

Lulu will join a new menu of brands at the Midfield Terminal, which will boast 28,000sq m of duty free shopping, dining and entertainment facilities.

The industry is still awaiting on an official announcement regarding the $2.49bn terminal opening following consecutive delays, although those close to the matter believe it will be next year, potentially in the Spring.

Aer Rianta International (ARI) will run the perfumes, cosmetics, skincare, sunglasses and jewellery concessions and Lagardère Capital [the joint venture comprising Abu Dhabi Capital Group and Lagardère Travel Retail] will handle liquor, tobacco, confectionery, and fine foods after both companies won the rights to operate at the terminal in 2015.

In a statement, Abu Dhabi Airports voices its commitment to supporting strategic partnerships with local industry in the UAE to buffer the ‘world-class passenger experience’ expected to be delivered at the Midfield Terminal.

Bryan Thompson, Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports said: “We are delighted to partner with the Lulu Group as we work to deliver the Midfield Terminal.

“This deal showcases the inclusive and diverse retail environment present at Abu Dhabi International Airport, and we are confident that the addition of the Lulu brand will contribute toward providing passengers with an enjoyable and memorable experience when arriving, departing or transiting through the airport.”
