Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) has told TRBusiness it has selected commercial tenants at its regional airports in Sohar and Duqm, as aviation infrastructure developments in the region gather pace.

An airside duty free store was recently awarded to the Oman Air and Aer Rianta International Middle East (ARIME) joint venture Muscat Duty Free at Sohar Airport, OAMC Commercial Advisor Bashar Saleh Al Thaher revealed in a recent interview.

Other facilities include a lounge and F&B outlet, with plans to introduce a further landside duty paid unit in the future.

The airport is located approximately 220km northwest on the main transport corridor between the Sultanate of Oman and Dubai near to the expanding Sohar Port and Freezone.

TAV AT DUQM

Meanwhile, OAMC has also awarded one retail and two F&B units to Turkey’s TAV Airports Holding at Duqm Airport, which opened its new Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) last month.

Situated roughly 560km south of Muscat in proximity of the Duqm Special Economic Zone (SEZD) that includes the ambitious Port of Duqm investment and logistics hub, Duqm Airport hopes to expand its pax capacity to 2m per annum in the future, up from its current 500,000.

The new Passenger Terminal Building at Duqm Airport in Oman opened its doors last month.

During the interview, Al Thaher also speaks in-depth about commercial progress at the New Muscat Airport, which opened earlier this year.

He also reflects on a positive six-month performance at Salalah International Airport, with spend per head elevated by higher charter flight volumes from Europe to Oman during the winter.
