The announcement was made by Bahrain’s Transportation & Communication Minister, H.E. Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, and BAC’s CEO, Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah, at a press conference.

TAV Group President & CEO, Sani Şener, says: “Since the Istanbul Ataturk Airport project in 2000, we will have built a total of 16 airports in the Middle East and North Africa region – seven of them are the gateways of the capital cities of their respective countries. We are proud to add Bahrain Airport to our portfolio, which includes ongoing projects in the UAE, Oman and Saudi Arabia.”

The project – planned to be completed in 51 months – covers the construction of a terminal building with 14m pax capacity, construction of main service building, air- and landside infrastructure works, and a multi-storey car park. TAV Construction will start the project in March together with its partner Arabtec. Bahrain Duty Free is the core duty free and travel retail concessionaire at BAH.

Among the duty free and travel retail airports of note in the region, TAV Construction has completed the 550,000sq m Hamad International Airport Passenger Terminal in Qatar and has on-going work at Abu Dhabi Airport’s Midfield Terminal.
