Worthy charity endeavour from MDF

By Doug Newhouse |

Muscat Duty Free (MDF) held its 10K Charity Walk to raise funds for The Philippines typhoon victims on February 1.

More than 50 staff members from all departments of the  Omani duty free company took part in Qurum Park, Muscat on the hottest day of the year so far (28c).

Actual fundraising began last December with MDF setting up an online donation page on UNICEF’s website. Pat O’Connor, Operations Manager, Muscat Duty Free, says that subsequently donations have been received from all over the world, including countries such as Canada, China, Beirut and Barbados.

Donations were also made offline with staff and members of the public making generous contributions.

O’Connor added: “We received tremendous support from our suppliers and I would like to thank Mars and Pepsi Oman who supplied the much needed water and chocolate on the day and to CommUnion who designed the T-shirts that were worn by all the participants.”

Commenting on the initiative Tom Byrne, General Manager, MDF said: “The Muscat Duty Free team has come together for a truly worthy cause. Some of our staff had friends and family affected by the typhoon and they really wanted to do something special to help in any way they could.”

Byrne added: “I’m delighted to say that we have raised over $4,500 so far and we are still accepting donations…”.
