Autogrill confirms $260m bid

Autogrill SpA (AGL.MI) has confirmed that its 50% joint venture subsidiary company Aldeasa has guaranteed the City of Atlanta $260m over eight years to operate the duty free contract at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport between
2007 and 2014.
Aldeasa, which is also 50% owned by Franco-Spanish tobacco company Altadis was awarded the concession last year in what is being seen as yet another very generous offer by the company.
Particularly considering that City of Atlanta Department of Aviation Concessions Division Kyle Mastin told TREND/The Business last year that the business has historically been worth around $14m a year in total sales turnover.
The new store will represent Aldeasa's first in the US and is expected to open in a few months. It will comprise around 690sq m and be located in Terminal E. Aldeasa will take over the store from sister company HMSHost which has been running it for more than two years on what Mastin agreed last year was a lucrative month-to-month contract.
