Canada: airports rejoice

By Administrator |

Vancouver International Airport Authority has issued a statement welcoming the Canadian Government's announcement yesterday of a new 'open skies style' international air policy.

?Today?s announcement is very good news for Vancouver International Airport and indeed for all British Columbians,? said Larry Berg, President and Ceo, Vancouver International Airport Authority.
?The policy explicitly recognizes that air transportation is a direct contributor to a dynamic economy and is a leading trade facilitator. The federal government?s new approach to international aviation will greatly contribute to B.C.'s Gateway success.?
Berg says that Canada?s New International Air Policy, announced by the Federal Government, outlines an approach the Airport Authority has long advocated. It states that the government will proactively negotiate more liberalized agreements for passenger and cargo services and set out a primary objective for Canada to establish reciprocal ?Open Skies? – type agreements, similar to the one recently negotiated with the US.
‘We would like to thank Transport Minister Lawrence Cannon, and Minister for the Pacific Gateway David Emerson for their work on this issue,? said Berg. ?We have also had a lot of support from the community and our business partners and we are very grateful for their continued interest.’
