DAL is first Hudson location to get Amazon grab-and-go shopping tech

Customers can pick up items, with payment taking place after they exit the store.

Amazon’s ‘Just Walk Out’ technology will arrive at selected Hudson travel convenience stores at leading airports in North America, the Dufry-owned firm has announced.

The first ‘Hudson Nonstop’ store powered by Amazon’s till-free Just Walk Out technology, which allows customers to pick up products in a physical store, pay and leave, will debut at Dallas Love Field Airport (DAL) in the first quarter of this year.

Additional rollouts are planned in 2021, as Hudson scales up its business innovation following a corporate rebrand, the introduction of its ‘Next Generation’ stores and personal protective equipment (PPE) vending machines.

Hudson says the introduction of the Amazon tech blends ‘ultimate convenience and a contactless shopping experience’ and allows shoppers to purchase grab-and-go food & beverage items, travel convenience goods, electronics and PPE under the ‘Traveler’s Best’ line.

CONVENIENCE FOR TRAVELLERS

Brian Quinn, EVP and Chief Operating Officer of Hudson said: “The addition of Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology perfectly complements our current digital footprint, providing travellers with yet another quick, secure and contactless shopping experience that meets their needs.

“Today’s traveller is progressively more connected, mobile and time sensitive – and they have higher expectations for convenience, safety and speed during their shopping experiences.”

Dallas Love Field Airport has been selected as the first ‘Hudson Nonstop’ shop location using Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology. It is also the first store to utilise this in southwestern US.

Hudson adds that by incorporating the technology instore, staff can spend more time on customer service.

Cameron Janes, Vice President, Physical Retail at Amazon added: “We’re excited to work with Hudson as they innovate in the travel industry and bring convenient, efficient experiences to travellers.

“While people are already accustomed to getting what they need on the go at a Hudson store, the addition of Just Walk Out technology will help busy travellers at Dallas Love Field Airport avoid waiting in line to check out so they can grab what they need and make their flight faster.

“We hope customers enjoy how much more convenient this makes shopping at the airport and look forward to introducing our technology to additional Hudson locations.”

Mark Duebner, Director of Dallas Love Field Airport said: “The future of airports and air travel is becoming contactless, so we’re happy to be the first airport with a Hudson store using Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology.”
