Dufry continues redevelopment at Chicago airport with new T5 store
By Charlotte Turner |
The new Dufry store, which celebrated its grand opening on 4 August in Terminal 5, boasts new luxury offerings for international travellers, including a larger selection of a wide range of specialty foods, liquor, perfume and beauty products.
The new store is part of a large-scale redevelopment of the airport’s retail and F&B concessions, managed by Westfield.
Last July, the City of Chicago awarded Westfield Concessions Management the contract to redevelop several concessions at Chicago O’Hare Airport, including Duty Free Americas’ T5 duty free business.
The concession was previously operated by Chicago Aviation Partners since 1993, a consortium which includes DFA and McDonald’s, but Westfield’s offer for the 20-year contract – where one of its partners is Dufry/Hudson – was preferred by the City Council’s Aviation Committee by a fourteen-to-one vote last year.

AIRSIDE CONCOURSE
“Travellers have already experienced upgrades to the inline news and gift, duty-free and food and beverage options,” says Dufry. “The complete redevelopment will relocate the TSA checkpoint to open up prime concessions space airside and provide travellers with a world-class shopping and dining experience.
Previously, 95% of the terminal’s dining and retail options were located pre-security.
Located in the centre of the airside concourse, the new 3,400sq ft Dufry store provides travellers with expanded shopping options near their gates as well as increased hours of operation.
PERMANENT STORE COMING SOON…
Some of the featured brands and products being offered include; watches by Michael Kors and Guess; sunglasses by Maui Jim, Ray Ban, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana; cosmetics from Estee Lauder, Clinique, Lancome, Christian Dior, Chanel, Guerlain; fragrance from Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein Summer, Armani, Ralph Lauren and confectionery brands including Godiva, Toblerone, Ghiardelli.
The store will serve as a temporary location during the Terminal’s redevelopment, with the permanent store to open in the fall of 2013.
“This new, larger and greatly enhanced duty-free location marks the beginning of many exciting new world-class retail shops and restaurants that will open in the coming months on the secure side of O’Hare’s International Terminal,” said Chicago Department of Aviation Rosemarie S. Andolino. “We’re very pleased to now offer more specialty products and luxury items at the Dufry store to better serve O’Hare’s global travellers.”
