Senior officials from Dufry Group, MBJ Airports Limited and other dignitaries have celebrated the opening of the travel retailer’s newly renovated walkthrough duty free shop at Sangster International Airport (SIA) in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
A ribbon-cutting held on Thursday 27 April was attended by Dufry’s Enrique Urioste, President and CEO Latin America; Juan Antonio Nieto, General Manager of Caribbean; MBJ Airport’s Shane Munroe, CEO; Sherifia Powell, CFO; Camille Royes, Legal Counsel; and Sharon Hislop-Holt, Commercial Business Development & Marketing Manager, plus the airport’s Commercial team.
Dufry has operated the duty free and duty paid stores at SIA since 2012.
As reported, the newly renovated walkthrough space recently showcased the world’s first boutique for Appleton Estate Rum.
Local spirits ‘vibes’
An additional 500sq m of commercial space has been added to the store, allowing for an extended range of product categories – from beauty, wines & spirits, luxury accessories and tobacco, to confectionery, local food, travel accessories, electronics, toys and souvenirs.
At the heart of the walkthrough is an eye-catching central area named ‘Rum Vibes’ that highlights local alcoholic beverages, including Jamaican rums.
Customers can sample brands at dedicated instore tasting bars, with the Appleton Estate Rum boutique immersing travellers in the distillery’s heritage and storytelling via a multitude of digital touchpoints.
