As a result of the win, Fraport Brasil S.A. Aeroporto will operate both Jericoacoara Airport and Fortaleza–Pinto Martins International Airport in the Brazilian state of Ceará.

Fraport Brasil S.A. Aeroporto de Fortaleza has announced that it has won a public bidding process for the concession to operate Jericoacoara Airport (JJD) in northeastern Brazil.

The company, which is a 100% subsidiary of Fraport AG, is already operating the airport in Fortaleza, and plans to assume management of JJD in autumn 2026.

The concession, which runs until 2047, was awarded within the scope of the Brazilian government’s AmpliAR programme, which involves integrating regional airports in existing concessions.

It covers operation of the passenger terminal as well as other landside and airside infrastructure, including retail and parking areas.

“We’re pleased to expand our involvement in Brazil and work with our experienced team to help actively drive the development of Jericoacoara Airport and promote tourism in Ceará,” said Fraport CEO Dr. Stefan Schulte.

The signing of the contract is planned for the spring next year, pending final approvals.

Jericoacoara Airport will then be incorporated into the existing concession for Fortaleza Airport. The contract will run for the remainder of that concession, which ends in 2047.

Fraport Brasil has pledged to make investments to modernise Jericoacoara Airport during the first three years of taking over operations.

JJD welcomed around 212,000 passengers in 2024. One of Brazil’s most popular travel destinations, the region is known for its extensive beaches,  dune landscapes, lagoons and is home to one of the country’s best-known national parks.

Fraport AG has been active in Brazil since 2017, operating the airports of Fortaleza and Porto Alegre within the scope of two separate concessions.
