Fraport USA will manage the retail concessions space at Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal B.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) has awarded Fraport USA a five-year contract to manage the retail concessions space at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) Terminal B.

Fraport USA, which recently announced the appointment of Bret Kelly as interim CEO, will provide retail management services including food court and common areas and manage the loading dock/storage facilities at Terminal B. The EWR contract is the third new concessions award within the last three years won by Fraport USA — developer of airport retail concessions programmes in North America.

Comprising around 47,000sq ft of concessions space, Newark Liberty’s Terminal B houses 30 specialty retailers, restaurants and a duty-free store catering to the airport’s growing domestic and international passenger traffic. Serving more than 46 million passengers in 2018, EWR achieved record traffic growth and ranked 11th in the United States.

COMPETITIVE TENDER

The Terminal B contract award follows a competitive bid and review process by PANYNJ, which owns and operates Newark’s Terminal B. Kelly commented: “We are committed to our partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Together, we share the vision of enhancing operations and delivering vibrant retail experiences for the passengers at Newark Liberty. At the same time, we are proud to expand our role within the largest airport system in the United States.”

Fraport USA already manages the JetBlue Airways’ retail concessions at New York John F Kennedy International Airport Terminal 5.

Fraport USA already operates at the Port Authority’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), where it manages the retail concessions area of JetBlue Airways’ Terminal 5. The new contract adds to existing operations at New York JFK, Baltimore/Washington and Nashville.

A Fraport USA statement added: “For more than a quarter of a century, Fraport USA has set the standard for airport concessions design and development in North America. Fraport USA was the first to introduce a branded retail programme and the independent operator model — with street pricing for U.S. airports.

“By building this foundation for modern airport retail concessions throughout America, Fraport USA is moving the industry forward as an innovative, customer-focused, and quality-oriented service provider.”
