Ghirardelli and DFS bring iconic San Francisco Cable Car to LAX

Ghirardelli has partnered with DFS to launch an exclusive high-profile promotion at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), running from 13 October to 13 November.
The activation centred on a striking San Francisco Cable Car installation, designed to create a vivid sense of place and a memorable photo opportunity for travellers passing through the airport.
Together, the brands created an offer that allowed passengers to take home “one last piece of California” through a DFS-exclusive mini wooden Ghirardelli Cable Car filled with an assortment of the brand’s best-selling chocolates. The collectible item reflected the rich history and cultural heritage of the San Francisco Cable Car, bringing a strong connection to the region’s identity and timeless charm.
“The Home Global Travel Retail market is vital to Ghirardelli’s sustainable growth strategy,” said David Dulyx, Vice President of Sales at Ghirardelli Chocolate Company. “Partnering with DFS, a key global player and trusted partner at our home airport, allowed us to connect deeply with travellers. This Cable Car activation was more than a display – it was an interactive experience that celebrated our shared values of heritage, quality, and California pride.”
Daniel Licari, Senior Director of Global Merchandising at DFS, added: “Ghirardelli is a long-standing collaborative partner in North America highlighting the importance of destination brands within airport locations. This dynamic activation at LAX brings a strong sense of place and interactivity, enriching the unique and unforgettable experiences DFS is committed to providing its travellers. This activation will add to the impressive growth of the Ghirardelli brand including seven exclusives only found at DFS in SFO and LAX airports.”
Travellers at LAX were invited to enjoy the display, take photos, and savour a final taste of California before boarding. The activation underscored the commitment of both Ghirardelli and DFS to creating travel retail moments that resonate well beyond the airport journey.
