Travel retailers eye ‘highly competitive’ Bahamas tender
By Luke Barras-hill |
Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) in the Bahamas has reported interest from ‘major’ travel retailers for its duty free tender following the closure of the EOI submission deadline (Friday 23 February).
As reported, operator Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD) is seeking a partner to design, build, finance and operate ‘multiple’ concessions at the important Caribbean tourism hub.
NAD says an initial review of the EOI indicates significant interest in the process, paving the way for an anticipated competitive tender. The authority declined to offer further detail on the interested parties.
“There has been very keen interest from major, global, duty free retailers,” said a NAD spokesperson. “We held several site visits in January and early February and all were well subscribed.”
NAD will now review and invite key proponents to participate in a formal RFP, which hopes to conclude by mid-Spring.
LPIA previously told TRBusiness that the expansion of a ‘world class’ duty free shopping experience is important to its wider plans.
According to the EOP documents, the chosen partner will deliver concepts and services ‘that will appeal to the complete spectrum of passengers served by the airport’.
They should possess five years’ experience in duty free airport operations and must enter into a joint venture with a licensed Bahamian company.
Proposals should include a revenue sharing model with NAD that includes minimum annual guarantees.
