LGA-Dufry

LaGuardia Dufry Duty Free will offer passengers an assortment of brands and products across all duty-free and duty-paid categories.

Hudson Group has expanded its footprint at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) winning a Terminal B retail package. The agreement is for space in the eastern concourse of the reimagined Terminal B

Spaning 1.3m sq ft, the new terminal is part of an $8bn overhaul of the entire airport. The state-of-the-art facility has 35 gates, over 25 retail and food offerings and dual pedestrian bridges that span active taxi lanes connecting the main part of the terminal to two island concourses.

The contract, awarded by terminal operator LaGuardia Gateway Partners, will see Hudson design the first FAO Schwarz airport and travel destination store of its kind, featuring signature FAO Schwarz toys and games.

News of the opening comes after Hudson struck a deal with FAO Schwarz earlier this year to open branded outlets across US and Canadian airports.

RETAIL LINE-UP

Brands represented will also include independent New York book-seller McNally Jackson, the company’s Hudson travel essentials and convenience label, LaGuardia Dufry Duty Free and MAC.

Domestic passengers can choose from an assortment of fragrances and cosmetics, fashion accessories and confectionery, while international pax will be able to shop for tobacco and wines and spirits.

Each offering takes inspiration from the New York experience, featuring famed New York businesses and a mix of regional and national brands that passengers are looking for.

The new concepts are the result of a meticulous selection process, using consumer feedback to bring world-renowned brands and New York City favourites to Terminal B and create local jobs in Queens.

Meanwhile, the new Terminal B will also feature District Market, a custom designed shop including local Made in Queens products through a partnership with the Queens Economic Development Council. This is in addition to the mix of New York brands and products.

Sante Antonelli, Director of Business Services for the Queens Economic Development Council said: “Showcasing Made in Queens products at District Market, operated by The Marshall Retail Group at LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B will be an opportunity for local manufacturers to bring their product to national markets.

“It will also give visitors the chance to purchase truly unique items representing the best that Queens has to offer.”

PHASED OPENING

The terminal itself, will open in phases starting later this year with the first gates in its eastern most concourse, featuring the new retail partners. The shops will join the recently announced Concourse B food and beverage partners. These are Shake Shack, Irving Farm Coffee Roasters, Osteria Fusco, La Chula Bar & Taqueria, Kingside Bar & Restaurant and Five Boroughs Market.

Overall, more than 50 new restaurants, shops and services will be available as part of the terminal redevelopment and an even more ‘robust offering’ of food and retail will arrive in the main part of the terminal and in the western concourse.

FAO-Schwartz

The new contract will see Hudson design the first FAO Schwarz airport and travel destination store of its kind, featuring signature FAO Schwarz toys and games.

Joseph DiDomizio, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hudson Group said: “Hudson Group has truly grown and evolved since we opened our first Hudson News at LaGuardia Airport in 1987. We are proud of our New York roots and thrilled to grow our longstanding partnership with such an amazing partner.

“The new contract highlights how diligently we work to ensure that airport concessions are evolving to meet the growing needs of travellers. This is especially true for LGA, as our competitive bid will bring the nation’s oldest and most iconic toy brand, FAO Schwarz, into airports for the first time at the city’s oldest commercial airport.”

Hudson-Exterior-2

The company’s Hudson travel essentials and convenience label will be represented in Terminal B.

Ed Baklor, chief commercial officer of LaGuardia Gateway Partners commented: “Hudson’s iconic brand coupled with its new and exciting concepts makes the company an ideal partner for this new contract.

“Hudson Group has been delivering unique concepts that cater to the immediate needs and wants of travelers at LGA for over 30 years and we are excited to extend and expand the company’s contract at Terminal B.”

He added: “The latest retail offerings in the new Terminal B promise a best in class visitor experience that both New Yorkers and travellers can be proud of. By listening to guest feedback and collaborating with our partners, we’ve created a unique environment you can only find at LaGuardia Terminal B, featuring the best of New York City.”

David Conn, CEO of ThreeSixty Group, the company that owns FAO said he was thrilled to be working with Hudson Group to bring the brand’s wonder and innovation to the airport community. He remarked: “The experiences that the brand can bring to those travelling through LaGuardia’s Terminal B will be unlike any other. Hudson Group is the perfect partner to execute that theatre and excitement.”
