Avolta’s Hudson has signed a seven-year contract with Allegheny County Airport Authority to expand its presence with six new retail stores at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT).

The expansion forms part of the airport’s US$1.57 billion Terminal Modernisation Programme, which includes a new landside terminal, alongside renovations to the existing airside terminal.

The new stores will cover 8,000 sq ft (2,400sq m) of retail space, offering travel essentials and global brands in the airport’s new terminal, scheduled to open by the end of 2025.

Hudson will operate the stores as a joint venture, HG PIT Retailers JV, with local Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) partner Daryl Milliner Media.

Hudson’s new retail offerings will include three locations for its popular travel convenience store concept, and a MAC cosmetics store. There will also be two shops designed to “evoke the essence of Pittsburgh”, by paying homage to the city’s famous sports team, and to the talent and creativity of local artisans.

Hudson currently operates nearly a dozen travel convenience, specialty retail and duty-free stores at Pittsburgh International, including Hudson Booksellers, Dunkin’, Sarris Candies, and Pittsburgh Duty Free.

Hudson fosters Pittsburgh Sense of Place

“Pittsburgh International Airport is evolving to meet the ever-growing needs of travellers and the surrounding region, and we are thrilled to be part of the transformation,” noted Avolta President and CEO North America Steve Johnson.

“The new PIT is a world-class airport worthy of the great city it represents. With a convenient mix of travel essentials and one-of-a-kind finds, our newest retail options will provide a perfect complement to the airport’s mission of delivering a smarter, more efficient passenger experience that is uniquely Pittsburgh.”

PIT Senior Vice President for Air Service and Commercial Development Bryan Dietz commented: “We are excited to build our partnership with Hudson to give our passengers new choices for cosmetics and other amenities, while also serving up a uniquely Pittsburgh experience through local modern gifting.”

Hudson’s new convenience stores will offer magazines, snacks and beverages, travel and convenience necessities, local souvenirs and electronics. The new MAC boutique will offer a curated selected of best-sellers.

Champion City Sports will carry apparel, memorabilia, and accessories from local teams, in addition to collaborations with Build-a-Bear and Vera Bradley, plus an interactive sports simulator.

Finally, the Duquesne & Co store will showcase the rich tapestry of Pittsburgh’s talent and craftmanship, providing a platform for local artisans and brands including Spectrum Fudge, Pittsburgh Popcorn, and Heinz.
