Hudson to debut Iowa-inspired retail concept at DSM
By Naomi Chadderton |
Hudson has secured a new eight-year retail contract at Des Moines International Airport (DSM), where it will introduce a locally inspired travel retail concept when the airport’s new terminal opens in January 2027.
Under the agreement, the Avolta-owned retailer will launch River & Grand by Hudson, a news, gifts and travel essentials store designed to showcase Iowa’s culture through a curated selection of products from local artisans and brands.
The concept will feature merchandise from regional names including RAYGUN, Bozz Prints, BLK & Bold, Clear Creek Orchard, Ironwood Candle Co. and Brown Dogs Farm, alongside apparel celebrating Iowa icons such as WNBA star Caitlin Clark and the film Field of Dreams. The offer will be complemented by fresh food, healthier snacks, travel essentials and premium electronics from brands including Apple, Beats, Bose and Sony.
The new store will also incorporate self-checkout technology to streamline the shopping experience, while passengers will have access to the Club Avolta loyalty programme, offering exclusive promotions and rewards.
Steve Johnson, President and CEO, North America, Avolta, said: “Des Moines International Airport has been a meaningful part of Hudson’s story for more than a decade, and we’re proud to build on that relationship as DSM enters this new phase. We designed River & Grand to enhance the journey through DSM’s new terminal, giving travellers a tangible connection to the region and supporting the makers, brands and entrepreneurs who define it.”
Brian Mulcahy, Chief Executive Officer of Des Moines Airport Authority, added: “As we build the future of travel at DSM, we’re proud to continue our partnership with Hudson to create a retail experience that’s distinctly Iowa. When our new terminal opens in January 2027, travellers will discover a marketplace filled with local products, artisan goods and Iowa-inspired gifts that celebrate our state’s culture while supporting the businesses and communities that rely on DSM every day.”
The contract extends Hudson’s long-standing presence at Iowa’s busiest airport, which serves more than three million passengers annually.
