The International Association of Airport and Duty Free Stores (IAADFS) has announced Nuno do Amaral of Aer Rianta International (ARI) as its newest member of the Board of Directors.
Amaral was appointed to fill the seat vacated by Gerry Crawford, who recently left the industry. He currently serves as Chief Operations & Business Development Officer at ARI having joined the company in 2014.
In 2019, he moved to ARI’s headquarters in Dublin to assume the role of Chief Operations Officer. He currently has operational responsibility across the globe with a focus on retail performance, standards and excellence.
Since January 2021, Amaral has been responsible for global business development and setting up new operations.
He also leads ARI’s sustainability programme as part of his remit and recently revealed details of the retailer’s updated environmental, social and governance strategy.

A member of the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association Board, Amaral previously served as Vice President, Middle East and Africa Duty Free Association and as a member of the European Travel Retail Confederation supervisory board in Europe.
“I am looking forward to serving on the IAADFS Board of Directors and helping the organisation provide value to its members, as well as the duty free and travel retail industry as a whole,” Amaral commented.
Rene Riedi, Chairman of the Board, IAADFS added: “Nuno brings a unique perspective and a global insight to the Board role as well as the historical and ongoing involvement of ARI in the North American and Caribbean duty free and travel retail market.”
