Air travel ‘impossible’
By Administrator |
The announcement by Air Zimbabwe that it is raising all of its airline ticket prices by 500% has effectively ended international travel for the vast majority of Zimbabwe's nationals.
The airline says that cost increases have been so dramatic as to force the airline into the draconian move at the same time as the country has plunged into virtual economic ruin, with inflation running at more than 1,000% per month.
At the new prices, a return trip between London and Harare would now cost Z$1,865,000 ($7,460).
The price increase follows a recent announcement by the government that it will no longer support loss making state-owned companies, including Air Zimbabwe.
