Orlando Airport traffic up 11.86%
By Doug Newhouse |
April passenger traffic continued the trend of steady growth at Orlando International Airport (MCO) for 2011, up nearly 5.6% compared to the same time period last year. (January up 3.8%; February up 4.2 %; March up 3.9%). April was the best percentage increase year-to-date. International traffic increased by 11.86% to 332,446 passengers.
“The attraction of our destination for leisure and business travellers drew 168,335 more travellers this April, which is a nearly 6% increase when compared to the same month last year. The trend is consistent with the record increase reported in visitor traffic for the Central Florida region,” said Phil Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
For the second month in a row and the second time this year, more than 3 million passengers travelled through MCO during a one month period, 3.1 million in total.
This summer, eight airlines have started or increased international routes to Orlando International Airport. MCO has more domestic non-stop service than any other airport in Florida and Orlando International is within a two hour drive of 50% of the population of Florida.
