Peace Arch Duty Free has completed the outdoor phase of its C$6.5 million renovation programme, with work now underway on a comprehensive refurbishment of the store’s interior.

The completed outdoor redevelopment includes new water features, landscaped gardens and a children’s playground, designed to enhance the shopping experience for travellers crossing the Canada-US border. Interior renovations are expected to be completed later this year.

The investment comes as the retailer reports strong sales growth across all departments during the last quarter, led by significant gains in cosmetics following the introduction of Korean skincare brands and fragrances from Dubai.

According to President Peter Raju, these new product lines have quickly become among the store’s best-performing categories alongside its established premium brands. The business has also recorded increased sales in electronics and menswear.

Building on that momentum, Peace Arch Duty Free plans to expand its menswear offer with an extended range including sport shirts, polo shirts, socks, belts, underwear and sandals.

The retailer is also operating with full staffing levels and extended opening hours as it looks to capitalise on growing traffic at British Columbia’s busiest land border crossing between Vancouver and Seattle, which sees around 4,800 vehicles cross each day.

Peace Arch Duty Free said it has experienced a substantial increase in American shoppers, while Canadian traveller numbers have remained relatively stable. The retailer also reported a more diverse customer base, with increasing numbers of Asian, South Asian, Vietnamese, Filipino and South American travellers.

The newly completed outdoor enhancements have been well received by customers and form part of Peace Arch Duty Free’s wider strategy to strengthen its offer and enhance the overall border shopping experience.
