LVMH-owned companies Starboard Cruise Services and Onboard Media have partnered to promote a range of Alaskan makers, businesses and organisations throughout cruise season.

With sustainability, cultural preservation and economic empowerment at its core, the campaign aimed to bring “Alaskan essence” to life through “conscious retail”.

Onboard Media celebrated local businesses from across Alaska through multimedia touchpoints. In addition, it premiumised its on-board offering by sourcing artisanal products for its cruise line partners.

The activation spanned the jewellery, gift, book, food and body care categories. Culinary brands, including Chugach Chocolates and Prince William Sound Salt Co. made their at-sea debut.

Another newcomer, Bering Sea Designs, offered handmade souvenirs that celebrated native crafts.

In addition, wildlife photography from Mark Kelley brought the Alaskan wilderness to life on board.

Alaska Seafood Company’s wild-caught, sustainable produce was available on board, as were Denali Soap’s natural products.

The activity built on a 2022 first-at-sea activation where Onboard Media partnered with several Alaskan organisations.

Starboard Cruise Services: ‘Preserving Alaskan heritage’

“Onboard Media’s groundwork paved the path for our successful joint venture to preserve Alaska’s heritage and invigorate trade through bespoke retail programmes,” says Lisa Bauer, President and CEO of Starboard Cruise Services.

“This initiative emphasises the significant value we create for not only our cruise partners and guests but also port communities.”

Jeffrey Meister, General Manager of Onboard Media, added: “Our informative and engaging touchpoints, coupled with Starboard’s assortments, made a meaningful impact on the Alaskan economy.

The stunning Alaskan scenery

“This cruising season was a testament to the remarkable synergy between Starboard and Onboard Media and how seamlessly our offerings intertwine and enhance one another.”

Ryan Wiswesser, CEO of Chugach Chocolates, commented: “We’re a small chocolate business utilising local flavours in a state with one of the smallest populations, the largest in land area (more than twice the size of Texas), and challenging transportation.

“Having our products on [cruise] ships to all reaches of the state [has been] crucially important.”

Earlier this year, Starboard Cruise Services teamed up with Carnival Cruise Line to launch a Carnival Venezia-themed retail offering.
