US security measures to ease?
By Administrator |
The US Federal Government is considering a number of proposals to ease excessive airport security in response to what it terms as growing resentment by the travelling public towards security checks.
But there is also a political motive, since the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the federal agency with jurisdiction over security is also fighting for its very survival. Critics of the TSA say any moves to ease security measures go against the grain and are cynically designed to win support from the general public.
Nevertheless, the TSA is now considering whether or not it should allow passengers to once again carry scissors, small knives, nail clippers and tweezers. It is also looking at whether it is still necessary for passengers to take their shoes off for inspection.
The TSA is also considering exempting certain government VIPs, such as members of Congress, Cabinet members, state governors and top military officials, from being screened at all.
