WH Smith unveils seven concepts at Newark’s revamped Terminal A

WH Smith, along with Marshall Retail Group and InMotion, has opened seven concepts at the new Newark Terminal A.

WH Smith North America, along with its subsidiaries Marshall Retail Group and InMotion, has opened seven concept stores at Newark Liberty International Airport’s (EWR) newly renovated Terminal A.

The revamped terminal opened to the public in January 2023, the result of a $2.7 billion dollar investment

Terminal A boasts 33 gates and 35 different concessions, including six local concepts, with a total footprint spanning one million square feet.

Portland and Munich Airport International (MAI) struck an agreement with Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in 2019 for MAI to operate and maintain the terminal.

News and wellness

WH Smith’s concepts within the renovated terminal include four newsstands: Vue New Jersey, New Jersey Monthly, Telegraph 1st Edition and WH Smith + Wellness.

The latter will offer a range of convenience items as well as magazines and newspapers.

In addition, a speciality retail concept brings together Boss, Tumi, Herschel Supply Co and tentree to offer a range of high-fashion, sustainable items spanning apparel, accessories, luggage and more.

Shore Points Market, a new marketplace concept featuring goods from local New Jersey ship Corrado’s Market, also joins the new line-up.

Shore Market and its giant mural, said to calm passengers.

WH Smith and EWR have partnered with Munich Group to commission a 40-foot mural by artist WERC and Gera to feature inside Shore Points Market.

Inspired by local landmarks, sea life, flora and other Jersey Shore elements, the mural depicts a sea goddess that WERC says will calm the minds of travellers while bringing in energy.

A stand-alone InMotion location has also opened inside Terminal A, offering lifestyle and electronics products – including headphones, mobile power and Bluetooth speakers – for business and leisure travellers.

A ‘veritable success’

WH Smith’s CEO Toby Keir, president and COO David Charles, and Chief Business Development Officer Roddy McOwan all attended a ceremonial ribbon cutting for Terminal A.

The Telegraph 1st Edition is one of a number of newsstands.

“The renovation of Terminal A was a veritable success, and we are proud to have contributed to this project with seven unique concepts, all capturing the local colour of New Jersey,” said Keir.

“With many additional concepts in development, we are excited to continue our partnership with the amazing team at Newark Liberty International Airport.”

Back in March, Marshall Retail Group unveiled two new retail concepts, DC Originals and WHSmith, in Concourse E at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).
