Reims-based Champagne Lanson has appointed Mélody Stroh as Vineyards and Sustainable Development Manager.

Guided by the Champagne house’s Chef de Cave Hervé Dantan, Stroh will be responsible for the vineyard while offering technical support to its wine growers to achieve the French High Environmental Value Certification.

In addition, Stroh will ensure the quality and traceability of sourced grapes that characterise Lanson’s wines and support the vineyard team working on emerging techniques of vineyard management and soil life.

She has a Diploma in Agricultural Engineering with Viticulture-Oenology and a National Diploma of Oenology (DNO) from Bordeaux.

After acquiring experience in Alsace, Burgundy and various Champagne regions, she joined the cabinet Magister Champagne in 2018 as a Viticulture Consulting Engineer.

Her arrival at Champagne Lanson continues the maison’s commitment to sustainable development, which began in 2010 following the acquisition of Malmaison estate.

The 16-hectare estate uses biodynamic practices to produce wines such as organic cuvée Lanson Green Label (left).

Champagne Lanson Head of Travel Retail Edouard de Boissieu said: “Champagne Lanson has a long-term strategy for sustainability which, of course, also affects our travel retail business and how we work with our retail partners in this respect.

“We are already in discussions with a number of partners regarding how we can put our ideas into practice and promote our sustainability to consumers. We hope to be able to announce one significant travel retail project shortly.”
