The Middle East and Africa Duty Free Association (MEADFA) is offering delegates 10% off tickets for its annual conference if they book their place before 5 September.

An annual gathering for travel retail and duty free stakeholders, the conference changes location each year.

For 2023, MEADFA will take place at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, Accra, Ghana on 19-21 November.

It marks the first time the conference has been held in West Africa.

With the theme ‘Expanding Horizons’, TFWA President Erik Juul-Mortensen said the move was “a massive and important step away from the Middle East”.

“The Board of MEADFA has said for a long time that we must move into Africa and this is the first step,” said Juul-Mortensen. “It will be exciting to be there in November.”

Before the discount, advertised in a LinkedIn post, is applied, registration fees are currently set at €820 per delegate. MEADFA and TFWA members can secure their place for €720.

Ticket prices include entry to the two-day conference including networking facilities, access to the Opening Cocktail on 19 November and the Gala Dinner on 20 November, and sight of the delegate list 15 days prior to the event.

MEADFA will announce the winners of its second Awards programme during the Gala Dinner.

The 2023 MEADFA conference is being hosted by Dufry. The retailer has a strong presence across Africa, with operations in several markets.

It has also partnered with the Ghana Tourism Development Company and the Government of Ghana to organise the conference.

“Staging our annual event in Ghana is a logical step, and we encourage all our members and regular conference delegates to join us for what promises to be an excellent event in a fascinating location,” commented Sherif Toulan, MEADFA President.

The full conference programme is expected to be unveiled soon.

Last year’s MEADFA Conference took place at The Art Hotel & Resort in Bahrain, attracting 441 delegates from across the region.
