The JV remarked this milestone marks a significant step toward sustainability in global logistics.

Alpha Kreol India, a joint venture between Avolta and the Kreol Group, has announced the arrival of the first container shipped using biofuel at Cochin Airport Duty Free.

“We are proud to collaborate with Avolta on this groundbreaking initiative. This is a significant milestone towards sustainable logistics, leveraging waste-based marine biofuels to reduce emissions and set a new standard for low-emission transport solutions in India.” said Kinjal Pande, CEO, DB Schenker India.

Avolta and DB Schenker, the global shipping company, have entered an agreement to utilise biofuel for shipping routes from Europe to select locations, including Cochin, India.

This initiative aligns with Avolta, Alpha Kreol and Cochin Duty Free’s commitment to reducing carbon footprints and promoting greener alternatives in the supply chain.

Lal Arakulath, Director of Alpha Kreol and CEO of Kreol Group said, “We welcome sustainability efforts with open arms. This achievement underscores our dedication to environmental stewardship and innovation in logistics.

We are especially proud to collaborate with Cochin Airport, the world’s only airport operating entirely on solar energy. This partnership exemplifies a shared vision for a greener future, reinforcing the importance of sustainable practices in every aspect of commerce and trade.”

Alpha Kreol has been managing Cochin Airport’s duty free operations since 2002. Cochin Airport reported its facilities utilise 100% solar energy for all its operations.

“Our sustainability journey is a continuing effort,” said S. Suhas, Managing Director of Cochin Airport, who continued: “Cochin International Airport (CIAL) has been a trailblazer in sustainable energy since 2018 when we became the first airport in the world to be fully powered by solar energy, earning the prestigious Champions Of The Earth Award from the United Nations. We welcome this initiative of Avolta and DB Schenker.”
