IMD set on driving sales of malt portfolio in travel retail
By Faye Bartle |

This year, Ian MacLeod Distillers (IMD) is turning its attention to driving sales of its malt portfolio, drawing on its rich well of single malts from the Scottish Highlands and Lowlands, Speyside and Islay.
“We’ve very much added to the portfolio this year,” William Ovens, Head of Global Travel Retail, Ian Macleod Distillers, told TRBusiness in this video interview, which took place during the 2025 TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.
“We’ve taken a fresh look to see where the gaps are,” he added. “We’ve looked at our pricing, our propositions and we feel this is the strongest line up we’ve ever had.”
As well as offering an insight into the new expressions that are available, including travel retail exclusives, Ovens shares a glimpse of how IMD is tackling the reduction in consumer spending that’s impacting the DF&TR industry.
Looking to the future, he also talks about untapped opportunities to expand the distribution of the company’s core malts, as well as to leverage the buzz around NPD in the Edinburgh Gin range.
Looking at territories and sectors, the Americas and the cruise channel are high up on the radar for having plenty of scope for growth potential moving forward.

Among the new liquids showcased in Cannes was the premium single malt, Tamdhu Cuatro Reserva 12 Year Old (ABV 41.2% / 70cl / RRP £55), from Speyside, which now takes the crown as the brand’s core expression in GTR.
From The Lowlands region comes the Rosebank Single Malt Vintage Release III. The third in a collection of five GTR-exclusive Rosebank vintages, this is a 1991 vintage and 33 years old.
Additionally, Glenfarclas, owned by fellow family-owned distiller, J&G Grant, was presented as part of the IMD portfolio for the first time, as part of the agreement that sees IMD distributing the brand in GTR.
The GTR range includes two completely new expressions: Glenfarclas 11 Year Old 1L (RSP £49.99) and Glenfarclas 16 Year Old 70cl (RSP £79.99) – both expressions are natural colour, non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% abv.
Finally, a first for Edinburgh Gin’s, is a range of GTR-exclusive liqueurs. The new Elevated Editions range encompasses three especially developed liqueurs, based on the bestselling domestic range: Rhubarb & Ginger, Raspberry and Blood Orange & Ginger.
