Women in Travel Retail (WiTR) teamed up with Tumi to celebrate International Women’s Day 2023 on 8 March with a sparkling event at its Regent Street store in London.
Under the theme of ‘A Woman’s Voyage’, the inspirational networking event (which was open to both members and non-members of WiTR) was attended by a total of 73 women .
Guests were awarded a first look at Tumi’s spring 2023 women’s collections: Voyageur and 19 Degree, with colours Lilac and Mist proving extremely popular among the women in the room.
In addition, Tumi staff were on hand to demonstrate the art of packing, and to share an insight into the Tumi repairs and personalisation services available.
“International Women’s Day is about celebrating women’s achievements: socially, economically, culturally and politically. It’s also about empowerment,” said Alex Willson, Brand Director – TUMI (UK and Ireland).
“Travel retail is such a great energising industry, but it can also be a scary one. When I joined the industry back in 2005, everyone seemed to know everyone else. And if you’re new to the industry, this is quite scary. So for me, this institution for women in travel retail provides a forum for women to exchange ideas, network and debate, in a safe space.
“When I spoke to Rosie Swale-Pope [see below] about this event, she was delighted to, but one thing she simply said to me was: ‘It is harder in this world for women’. And it really is, from what she was saying.
“We’re very much invested in diversity and inclusion at TUMI. For us, partnering with an organisation like Women in Travel Retail provides a forum for women in this great industry to be recognised, supported and to feel engaged – and that is why we are hosting this event today.”
The guest of honour for the evening was British adventurer and author Rosie Swale-Pope, who delivered a motivational speech, drawing on her incredible experiences gleaned from her round-the-world running adventures, which have included running 20,000 miles across the globe over a period of five years.
Her exploits are documented in her book, Just A Little Run Around the World.
Guests enjoyed Champagne and canapés and all those who attended were entered into a raffle to win a Tumi Backpack (first prize) or a soft toy fox given by Rosie as part of her story (second prize). Tumi also generously provided guests with goody bags on departure.
“It was an absolute delight to see so many faces at the event and are thrilled to have gained some new members as a result of the event, and offers to host other events,” said Sarah Branquinho, Chair of WiTR.
“Many thanks to Alex Willson and the team at Tumi for their incredible hospitality and generosity during the evening, to Rosie, and to all those who attended.”
