Waterhaul partners with Condor on sunglasses listing & ghost gear initiative
By Faye Bartle |
Waterhaul has teamed up with Condor Ferries to retail its 100% recycled fishing gear sunglasses on-board its ships this summer.
Together, the companies will be helping to raise awareness of the issue of harmful ghost gear (lost, abandoned and otherwise discarded fishing gear) in our waters, by showcasing their work to remove it from the oceans by repurposing it in the form of high-quality, functional products.
Kick-starting the collaboration is a range of six different Waterhaul sunglasses styles available on Condor Ferries routes throughout the summer season.
These will be displayed on specially designed point of sale (POS) stands within the retail spaces.
“At Condor Ferries, we are committed to supporting environmentally friendly brands, and Waterhaul aligns perfectly with our values,” said Nicola Lemon, Buyer, Condor Ferries.
“Waterhaul’s innovative mission to transform ocean plastic into high-quality eyewear is impressive.”
She continued: “We are particularly struck by the exceptional quality and stylish designs of their glasses, crafted from recycled fishing nets.
“Furthermore, their lifetime guarantee ensures our customers receive both superior products and enduring peace of mind.”
Waterhaul’s mission is to ‘increase its positive impact on the ocean as much as possible’.
Each Waterhaul product sold directly removes fishing gear from the environment and helps to fund the company’s ongoing endeavours, making each retail partner an important part of the vision and solution.
“We’re so excited to be working with Condor Ferries to engage people who will be using their crossings about our mission of removing ghost gear from the ocean, and our solution of repurposing it into products designed to connect people with and help them protect the ocean,” said Jonathan Corbett, Travel Retail Coordinator, Waterhaul.
“Travel retail offers us and our partners a brilliant platform to educate people about the positive ocean action we’re taking, and collectively remove more fishing gear from the environment.”
Waterhaul is a Cornish social-enterprise, run by a team of surfers, marine conservationists and ocean enthusiasts. Its processes and products help break the ‘ghost gear cycle’ by transforming recycled fishing gear into eyewear, which its network of volunteers have recovered directly from the UK coastline.
