Wonderful Pistachios’ no shells range offers higher dollar margin for retailers

By Faye Bartle |

Wonderful Pistachios & Almonds is building back following the pandemic, which sparked a “terrible two years for the industry,” as described by Director of Sales, Oceania, SE Asia, CaSA & Global Travel Retail James Kfouri.

“Some regions have been hit harder than others so the recovery has taken a lot longer,” he commented in this exclusive video interview filmed during the 2023 TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.

He goes on to discuss the success of the no shells range as an easy snacking option for travelling consumers that offers retailers a higher dollar margin and can help to drive incremental sales.

“There’s a higher price point because you’re not paying for the shells, but from a retailer’s perspective, it’s a higher dollar margin,” he pointed out.

The company developed its no shells range a few years ago, creating a sub-category in its snacking portfolio. This has been driving its domestic business “considerably” by delivering year-on-year growth.

As a result, the range is continually being extended with new flavours, such as salt and pepper.

Furthermore, it has found a fitting home in travel retail, with the convenience of the ready-to-eat seeds a hit among consumers wanting to snack inflight, during their dwell time, and while on holiday.

As the products are available in selected markets, consumer interest is also piqued by the chance to try something they may not be able to get their hands on at home.
