DDF/UnionPay celebrate T3 China event with promotion
By Doug Newhouse |
Dubai Duty Free has been running its ’Chinese Golden Week’ promotion with UnionPay as part of its Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival celebration in Terminal 3 – Concourse B and in Concourse C (Control Tower) at Dubai International Airport.
The retailer says this is ‘the second grandest festival in China after Chinese New Year’ held on the 15th day of the eight lunar month in the Chinese calendar during a full moon.
SECOND SIGNIFICANT CHINESE FESTIVAL…
Presiding over the occasion was Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice President for Commercial, Nic Bruwer, along with various other DDF officials and staff and some Chinese media.
Commenting on the celebration Bruwer said: “We are delighted to welcome the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival at Dubai Duty Free. This is the second most significant festival on the Chinese calendar and celebrated not only in China but around the world.”

As part of these celebrations DDF launched its Chinese Golden Week promotion with UnionPay International offering participants the opportunity to win a 24k gold coin for every purchase worth AED1,000 ($272) or more with UnionPay card (card number start with 62) at Dubai Duty Free.
SPECIAL PROMOTIONS AND DISCOUNTS
That promotion effectively ends today, along with the promotion of some of the favourite Chinese beauty brands from leading houses, including L’Oréal, as Lancôme and Yves Saint Laurent produced special promotions for CTrip customers, offering 15% to 25% discounts on selected items.

The retailer added: “Other attractive Chinese-themed promotions were rolled out across Dubai Duty Free in Dubai International Airport at the themed retail areas offering the most popular products for Chinese consumers.
“Traditional Chinese blooming flower imagery and decorative hanging lanterns adorned these areas creating the look and feel of the festival, while some Dubai Duty Free Chinese staff distributed mooncakes to passengers, adding authenticity to the atmosphere. Mooncake is the most iconic food associated with the festival that symbolizes family reunions and best wishes.”
Dubai Duty Free adds that of its 6,000 employees from 45 different nationalities, no less than 560 are Chinese staff.
Also present at the celebration were Thankachan Varghese, Operations Manager (Concourse A), Teresita Dizon, Duty Manager, Sunshine Bian, Assistant Manager-Resourcing and Manpower Planning, Patrick Yan Zhao, Officer and Bo Yun, Market Researcher – plus others.
