Thabet Musleh rises to Senior Vice President at Qatar Duty Free

Qatar Duty Free (QDF) Vice President Operations Thabet Musleh has been promoted to Senior Vice President, effective this month.

A LinkedIn announcement made through Musleh’s account and verified by TRBusiness has attracted [correct at the time of writing] more than 575 reactions and in excess of 190 comments from stakeholders in the DF&TR industry.

Musleh, instrumental in the meteoric rise of the QDF business in recent years, joined the Hamad International Airport (HIA) based travel retailer in 2015 as Retail Operations Manager – QDF, rising through the ranks to Vice President Operations.

Prior to his roles with QDF, he spent nearly a decade with World Duty Free Group.

The announcement follows an impressive set of commercial results for QDF, which has unveiled a string of first-to-market brands, exclusives and activations in recent years under Musleh’s stewardship.

Strong financials

Retail revenue grew by more than 59% in the financial year April 2022 – March 2023 year-on-year, and was up +45% versus the 2019-2020 period.

Sales per passenger enjoyed an uplift in excess of +49% year-on-year in a 2022 marked out by the successful terminal expansion at HIA including the unveiling of the ‘Orchard’ commercial precinct, which showcases a flurry of brands and a versatile mix within a 10,000sq m indoor tropical garden.

The flagship Louis Vuitton unit anchored around the 575sq m water feature in the Orchard, situated within the Central Concourse of the North Plaza in the newly expanded terminal.

QDF boasts more than 37,000sq m of duty free and concession space with more than 180 luxury and affordable retail and F&B outlets.
