In the latest TRBusiness Shorts, the exclusive video insights series produced in partnership with Bluedog Group and filmed on location at the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference (1-5 October), Champagne Lanson President François Van Aal offers a temperature check on the health of the Champagne category.

At €6 billion in value terms, 2022 represented a record year for the Champagne industry, building on what has been extraordinary post-Covid demand for bottlings.

On a volume basis, this year’s forecast is 323 million bottles, though that is down against the 326m shipments last year. Despite the gentle decline in volume, spending is increasing, Van Aal confirmed during a press briefing at the global trade summit this month.

In this Shorts episode, the Lanson chief touches on its latest cuvée Le Black Création, which will supplant the existing Black Label in travel retail when stocks run out.

This year, the Reims-based maison successfully renewed its long-standing collaboration with the famed All England Lawn Tennis Club as its Official Partner to The Championships, Wimbledon.
