Ian Macleod Distillers’ limited edition Edinburgh Gin 1670, inspired by the city’s famous Royal Botanic Garden, is launching in global travel retail exclusively at Singapore Changi Airport with Lotte Duty Free.

The full-strength gin was created in partnership with Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh to support its conservation and sustainability projects.

According to Ian Macleod Distillers, it’s the ‘only gin’ to feature fresh ingredients from the site, which is home to 14,000 botanicals.

It takes its name from the year the botanic gardens were founded, in 1670.

“Edinburgh Gin has seen positive growth at Singapore Changi Airport and it’s our pleasure to introduce the distinctive Edinburgh Gin 1670 to Lotte’s customers,” said Jeff Jeong Soon-Gyu, Managing Director for Lotte Travel Retail Singapore.

Lotte Duty Free currently stocks a number of other products from Ian Macleod Distillers, including Edinburgh Gin Classic, Seaside, and Rhubarb & Ginger.

Edinburgh Gin is also available at other key airports in the region, including Hong Kong International Airport, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport and Sydney International Airport.

William Ovens, Global Travel Retail Director for Ian Macleod Distillers, said: “Singapore Changi is a key airport for gin sales in Asia, as well as a vital transit hub for travellers to Australia and New Zealand, both of which are important domestic markets for Edinburgh Gin and the gin category as a whole.”

Listed at 43% ABV, the individual unit price for a 70cl bottle of Edinburgh Gin 1670 is US$49.

Edinburgh Gin 1670 is described as having a ‘balanced yet rare profile’ with hints of sweet cicely, piper leaf and Tasmania lanceolata.

David Wilkinson, Head Distiller at Edinburgh Gin, noted its latest in-airport offering as “something a little sweet, slightly menthol and massively original”, adding that “it’s an unforgettable collaboration”.

Edinburgh Gin launched in Asia GTR in 2018 and has been listed by Lotte Duty Free at Singapore Changi Airport since 2019.
