The Australian Government has confirmed that is maintaining the duty free and GST free status for ‘domestic’ cruises to Willis Island which is located around 450 kilometres east of Cairns in the Coral Sea Islands.

Federal Tourism Minister Fran Bailey told local press that this was in line with the government's support for the cruise line industry. It also means that cruise ships operating off the coast of Queensland will still be able to offer duty free and GST free goods onboard, provided they make a stop at Willis Island.
