Oettinger Davidoff AG took the global platform that is Art Basel Miami Beach to announce the opening of new studios in the Dominican Republic, as part of its cultural outreach project the Davidoff Art Initiative, as well as showcasing its latest limited edition, artist-designed cigar boxes.

The cigar manufacturer, partnering Art Basel for the third consecutive year, also made public the latest recipients of the Dominican arts residency and the Davidoff Arts Grant. The five artists who will be working from the new facility from January – April 2015 are: Alia Farid (Kuwait/Puerto Rico), Nuria Montiel (Mexico), Cathleen Mooses (USA), Mathilde Rosier (France), and Soledad Salamé (Chile).

Engel Leonardo (Dominican Republic) will be the sixth artist to take part in the Art Residency, working from the Red Gate Gallery Residency in Beijing, China, from May – June 2015.

Davidoff awarded the next Arts Grant to Tilting Axis – a regional meeting based in Barbados aimed to promote the exchange of artists and professionals working within the visual arts communities across the wider Caribbean region.

Launched in 2012, the Davidoff Art Initiative supports contemporary art and artists in the Caribbean and Dominican Republic while fostering cultural engagement between the Caribbean region and the rest of the world.

From their VIP hospitality lounge in the Collectors Lounge at Art Basel Miami, Davidoff Cigars also presented its two newest limited edition cigar cases, featuring original commissioned artwork by the important acclaimed Caribbean artist, Quisqueya Henríquez.

Fifty Collectors Editions, including the special cigar case and an original artist’s print, will go on sale with a portion of all proceeds going to support the Davidoff Art Initiative.

“Once again, we return from Art Basel in Miami Beach with new experiences, new contacts, new friendships, and perhaps most importantly, having further solidified the visibility and reputation of our brand in the eyes of cultural aficionados from all over the world,” says Hans-Kristian Hoejsgaard, CEO and member of the Board of Oettinger Davidoff AG.

“There is really no event quite like Art Basel Miami Beach, with its enormous attendance from North America, South and Central America, Europe and even Asia, and its vast press coverage. In this important and intense gathering of high net-worth individuals and opinion-makers, it is heartening to know that the Davidoff Art Initiative now counts as one of the most innovative and respected art initiatives, not only in our own industry, but among luxury lifestyle brands worldwide.”
