Gebr. Heinemann world-first with Chocolat Frey

By Kevin Rozario |

Since June, Gebr. Heinemann has been running an exclusive partnership with Swiss chocolate maker Chocolat Frey called ‘Message for You’ – the chocolate with a personal declaration.

The gift idea – available to passengers at Heinemann stores at Frankfurt (main image), Budapest, Hamburg, Vienna (below), Berlin (Schönefeld and Tegel), Copenhagen, and Istanbul airports – will not go into domestic retail outlets until early November.

The Chocolat Frey product comes in two pack sizes and three designs. The packs contain either four or 14 chunks of Swiss chocolate with specific words or symbols printed on the wrappers, and each box has three clear ‘windows’ through which the chosen message can be seen.

‘Message for You’ phrases suit many occasions: declarations of love or friendship, thank you notes; a gift to make someone smile. The greetings are produced in a couple of steps: the customer removes the lid from the box, specifies the personal message to be seen through the window, closes the box and the gift is ready to go.

Designs go from playfully romantic floral garlands to austere, abstract motifs and spotted patterns with a DIY feel.

A PERSONAL TOUCH

Nils Schirmer, Head of Campaign Management for the LTC (liquor, tobacco and confectionery) product group at Gebr. Heinemann, comments: “The gifts area is becoming increasingly important to the travel retail market, and gifts with a personal touch are very fashionable at the moment.

“The trouble is, personalised gifts are generally difficult to get hold of when time is short. With ‘Message for You’ travellers now have a fast and easy way to create individual gifts bearing a personal message.”

Serge Doutaz, Head of Marketing and Sales at Chocolat Frey, adds: “Travellers can now buy the new pralines, complete with personalised messages, on their way to the departure gate.”
