By Doug Newhouse |

DFS Group was given the  ‘Best Travel Retail Award’ at the recent Hurun Report’s Best of the Best Awards 2015, after the publishers counted votes from its readers.

The awards concentrate on readers’ favourite luxury brands spanning different categories, with DFS’ award given as ‘the top luxury travel retailer of choice for the affluent in China’.

Now in their 11th year, the awards saw DFS presented with its honour on January 29, 2015 at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai (Pudong), in a ceremony which also paid tribute to a host of other luxury brands such as Bulgari, Cartier, Chanel and Hermès.

Commenting, Rupert Hoogewerf, founder of the Hurun Report, said: “In luxury travel, DFS’ attention to detail is unrivaled, and one that extends beyond Asia to the rest of the world.” It is also notable that all of the luxury brands in Hurun’s top ten ranking for gifting for men and women are also available at DFS.

According to the organisers of the awards, DFS ‘pushed the boundaries in luxury travel retail last year’, including the continued rebranding of its downtown luxury department stores to T Galleria by DFS. In 2014, it also launched its LOYAL T programme.

The Hurun Best of the Best Awards is based on the results of the CLCS (Chinese Luxury Consumer Survey). This is the eleventh consecutive year that Hurun Report has published the survey. Hurun Research conducted the survey between May and November 2014.

It surveyed 376 mainland Chinese ‘millionaires’, defined as individuals with a personal wealth of Renminbi 10 million or more (equivalent to $1.6m / Euro 1.2m / GBP 1m). The individuals were 66% male and 34% female and amongst them 63.8% were from first-tier cities, including Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou.
