Lotte ‘lights’ World Tower to highlight Winter Olympics
By Doug Newhouse |
Lotte Duty Free has joined in the preparations for next February’s PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, after Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin illuminated the giant replica LED Olympic torch on the 23rd floor of the 554.5m flagship Lotte World Tower skyscraper in Seoul.
The new illumination is aimed at raising the profile of both the PyeongChang Winter Olympics (Feb 9-25) and the PyeongChang Paralympic Games (March 9-18), while also promoting Lotte Duty Free’s sales at the Jamsil district store location in eastern Seoul.
AIMED AT RAISING THE PROFILE OF THE GAMES
The new ‘torch’ on top of the world’s fifth tallest building – which cost $3.3bn in total – was officially turned on by the Lotte Group Chairman last Sunday in the presence of the games’ organizing committee and its head, Lee Hee-beom.
[As reported at the time, the Lotte World Tower flagship duty free outlet reopened with its 1300 employees on January 5, 2017, following a six-month period of uncertainty caused by the June 2016 closure of the duty free section in the building-Ed].
LEE Hee-beom President & CEO of the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games says that these events are aimed at raising South Korea’s status in world sports.
SECONDARY AIMS…
He adds that a ‘secondary aim’ for PyeongChang 2018 is to help the country on ‘economic, cultural and environmental fronts’, while promoting world peace and employing cutting-edge information and communication technology.
He added: “I would like to ask the citizens of Korea and the world to support and accompany us on our great journey to PyeongChang 2018.”
