TR Awards: airport & green finalists announced

By Charlotte Turner |

TRBusiness and Swiss consumer research agency m1nd-set are delighted to announce the finalists in the airport and green award categories for the consumer-voted 2021 Global Travel Retail Awards.

The product category finalists were recently announced and can be found by clicking here.

The awards ceremony will be hosted during the inaugural Travel Retail Consumer Forum (20-22 September), at 7pm on 21 September at the prestigious Hilton London Paddington hotel.

All registered delegates will gain access to the awards ceremony as part of the dinner. All Travel Retail Awards finalists are encouraged to book their delegate place at the conference (£595).

The global event follows the hugely successful Asia Pacific edition of the awards, which took place in May. Relive the ceremony by clicking here.

The Travel Retail Awards, first conceived in 2017, is now even more critical to the continued recovery of a duty free and travel industry that has been devastated by woefully low passenger numbers.

DRIVING CONVERSION RATES INSTORE

While data from July is looking more promising, global air traffic is not forecast to reach pre-Covid levels until 2023, meaning it is more important than ever for the industry to leverage the power of the ‘Voted by Shoppers’ logo, which has proved to be a stamp of approval consumers can trust.

In previous research undertaken by TRBusiness and m1nd-set, 31% of shoppers said their final decision to make a purchase would be influenced by the ‘Voted by Shoppers’ winners logo.

Meanwhile, 22% said their decision to purchase would be influenced by the ‘Voted by Shoppers’ finalists logo.

CONSUMER FEEDBACK ON AIRPORTS

International travelling consumers vote on at least 60 airports selected from across the continents as per m1nd-set’s unique database.

More than 5,000 participants who have travelled through at least one of the 60-plus airports are asked a series of questions about their airport shopping experience, specifically on the themes of the awards: the retail environment, customer experience, digital and social media offer, sense of place and the airport food & beverage offer. The results will then be collated and airports will be awarded accordingly.

For the new Sustainable Airport, Airline and Cruise Retail award, the submissions made by the participating airports, retailers or F&B operators are shared with the panel of consumers. They review them, scoring the entries on a 10 point scale.

Our panel of bloggers and vloggers also review these entries. The same 70:30 ratio between consumers’ and bloggers’ scores will apply to the green and airport awards, as with the product awards.
