Gebr. Heinemann sets sail in the cruise retail market

Gebr. Heinemann has entered the cruise retail market in Australasia and the Americas.

Gebr. Heinemann has announced that it has won retail concessions onboard four of Carnival Cruise Line’s ships, serving the North American and Australasian markets.

The retailer is represented in those markets by two of its subsidiaries, Heinemann Americas and Heinemann Asia Pacific.

Operations on the Carnival Liberty, Carnival Fantasy and Carnival Ecstasy, based in the Caribbean, are scheduled to begin between January and March 2018, confirms Gebr. Heinemann.

Retail activity on Carnival Spirit, based in Sydney, Australia, will follow in June 2018.

CRUISE SPACE

According to Heinemann, its retail operations onboard the four cruise liners will span more than 1,220 sq m in total.

Two shops on the Carnival Liberty (which sails between its homeport of Port Canaveral in Florida and the Bahamas), cover a total of 299sq m and will be open for business later this month.

Three shops, covering 249sq m in total, on both the Carnival Fantasy and Carnival Ecstasy, are scheduled to open in February 2018.

Heinemann Asia Pacific will operate the largest of the new cruise shops, spanning 424sq m on the Carnival Spirit (which sails to the Pacific Islands and New Zealand), from June 2018.

The product range on Carnival’s ships include perfume and cosmetics, liquor, tobacco, confectionery, watches, fashion apparel and accessories.

Commenting on the partnership, Nadine Heubel, Managing Director of Heinemann Americas, stated: “We are looking forward to working with Carnival Cruise Line and this new challenge of starting the first global partnership between Heinemann Americas and Heinemann Asia Pacific.

“We are also pooling Gebr. Heinemann’s extensive expertise in airport retail, distribution and logistics and bringing it to the cruise ship channel.”
