The Dubai Duty Free team celebrate the Year of the Dragon.

Travel retailer Dubai Duty Free has welcomed the Year of the Dragon with a celebration in Dubai International Airport, and announced the latest winners in its Millennium Millionaire and Finest Surprise promotions.

Held in Terminal 3 Concourse B, the Lunar New Year festivities included a traditional dragon dance, an eye-dotting ceremony, and a cake cutting.

The celebration was attended by members of the Dubai Duty Free leadership team, including Chief Operating Officer Ramesh Cidambi. Vice Consul General Mr. Liu Zhengjie and Vice Consul General Ms. Wang Yi were in attendance alongside invited Chinese media.

They were joined by Joint COO Salah Tahlak, Sinead El Sibai, SVP Marketing, Mona Al Ali, SVP, HR, and Sharon Beecham, SVP, Purchasing.

Following speeches from Cidambi and Liu, the latest winners in the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire and Finest Surprise promotions were announced.

David T became the ninth Australian national to win the US$1 million prize, while Germany’s Thomas Minninger won a BMW 740i M Sport car.  

Dubai-based Indian national Pravin Jogale won an Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory motorbike, while Nino Caponpon, a Filipino based in Abu Dhabi, won a BMW R18 Classic motorbike. 

Last month, Dubai Duty Free said it had updated its payment options to allow for Alipay+ at its Dubai International and Al Maktoum airport duty free stores.

Shoppers from South Korea, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Mongolia, Italy, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao can now make payment through their local e-wallet providers.
