ANAC reports record traffic figures for May

According to ANAC (Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil) – the Brazilian agency responsible for the regulation and the safety oversight of civil aviation – international traffic has grown in the last consecutive months and reached a record high in May with an increase of 5.06%, YOY, and capacity rose 8.1% in the same period.

 

From January to May this year, the international demand grew 5.39%, and international supply increased by 14.12% compared with the first five months of 2012.

 

Domestic passenger demand in Brazil grew by 5.14% in May 2013 compared to the same month in 2012. The record figures are the highest in May since ANAC began collecting ‘Comparative Data’.

 

TAM and GOL airlines drove the growth in May 2013 with RPK (Revenue Passenger Kilometre) of 39.55% and 35.35%, respectively.

 

Among the major Brazilian airlines Avianca and Blue recorded the highest growth in market share in May 2013 compared with the same month in 2012 – from 5.10% to 7.14% (an increase of 40, 08%) and 11.16% to 13.26% (18.84% growth), respectively.
