TRC renews call for Alzhemier’s Research UK ‘Walk For a Cure’ support
By Benedict Evans |

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity and since the charity was founded in 1992, it has invested more than £237m in dementia research.
With less than two months to go, Travel Retail Consortium has reasserted its support for Alzhemier’s Research UK with ‘Walk For a Cure’, inviting industry colleagues, friends and family take part in two challenging ‘Walk for a Cure’ events in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK.
As its nominated charity for this year, the TRC is seeking to raise £18,000 for the charity, which would fund a PHD research student for a year in its efforts to find a cure for a disease that will affect one in two of us.
To date, the ‘walkers’ have raised just over £6,000 (including gift-aid) towards the goal but there is still a long way to go.
The TRC is appealing to the industry to dig deep to support the initiative. “The TRC has pledged to donate a further £6,000 to the cause,’ said chairperson Sharon Edwards-Smith: ‘and so if the industry could help us to raise an additional £6,000 then we will have made it,” she added.
Members of the industry are also invited to take part in one of the walks and help fund-raise towards the total. There’s a distance to suit everyone, from 13, 21 or 42k in the Peak District or 6, 21 or 34k in the Cotswolds.
All donations (whether to the TRC or individuals) go into the central Consortium fund-raising pot.
“We currently have 23 signed up to walk at either one or both locations, but there is still time to sign up – the more that walk, the more we can raise.” noted Sharon.

The TRC will have dedicated gazebos at both events for walkers and their supporters to meet up and use during the day.
Champagne member Taittinger will be providing baseball caps to identify TRC walkers as they successfully cross the finishing line, while refreshments and sweet treats are being provided by members: Accolade Wines/Vinarchy; Au Vodka; Butlers; Edinburgh Gin; Harrogate Water; Heineken; and Rémy Cointreau.
