The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) has sent a ‘notice of violation’ to Aeroportos Brasil – Viracopos S/A, operator of Viracopos/Campinas International Airport (VCP), for failing to meet an 11 May deadline for the completion of planned expansions in the first phase of investments (Phase IB) of its concession contract.

 

In 2012 the airport was ranked 7th in terms of transported passengers, 9th, in terms of aircraft operations, and 2nd in terms of cargo handled in Brazil, placing it amongst the busiest airports in the country. It was taken over from Infraero – the Brazilian Government corporation – in 2012 by Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos.

 

The assessment took place after technical inspection reports were conducted in May. The operator has been found to be noncompliant with the deadline for the contract items 8.1 and 8.2 of the Plan of Airport Operations (SAP).

 

According to ANAC the Brazilian airport operator will have 20 days after receipt of the notice, to present its defense to the Agency. After analysis, it can decide on a fine amount.

 

According to ANAC, Aeroportos Brasil – Viracopos S/A has missed its deadline, therefore delaying the start of operation of the new terminal. It was contracted to deiver more than 140,000sq m of ‘built area’; 28 new aircraft positions, all with boarding bridge, and ‘new courtyards’ and adjacent to the new terminal taxyways.

 

It was also expected to deliver new central utilities and a new road system; completion and operation of the new EDG (parking garage) in front of the new passenger terminal; implementation of new systems and equipment that will the opeate the new passenger terminal and new business sales and service support of various products.
